We run a thriving intergenerational COMMUNITY GARDEN in Peebles, Scottish Borders. Volunteers learn how to grow food, develop skills, make friends and build confidence. VOLUNTEERING alongside others, and engaging in outdoor activity, is known to be beneficial for health and wellbeing. All our garden sessions end with a free harvest to take home, so everyone has access to fresh produce.
We offer a range of activities, for those learning about gardening for the first time, and for established growers looking to share their knowledge.
There really is something for everyone, come along to find out what the garden can offer you – friendships, connection to nature, fun outdoor activities, skill development and of course, lovely vegetables and fruit!
The community garden welcomes volunteers of all ages and abilities. We have a variety of seasonal tasks so you can choose what activities suit you. Find out more about our COMMUNITY GARDEN or go to our VOLUNTEERING page to find out about weekly garden sessions, and other ways to get involved.
We run monthly SKILL SHARE sessions from our garden shelter, The Barn. These are informal sessions, often involving a practical demonstration for people to learn a variety of skills, from gardening activities, art and crafts, animal care, mindfulness, digital skills and much more! We also host regular community meals throughout the year.
Our family volunteer sessions GROW KIDS are a popular way to introduce children (and adults!) to community growing.
We are committed to helping local people make empowered and informed choices about low carbon behaviours. See our CLIMATE ACTION page to learn more about how you can make a difference.

Thanks to the dedication and support of our wonderful volunteers that create, maintain and develop our beautiful garden, we are able to apply for different local, regional and national awards and initiatives every year.
We were thrilled to receive a Gold Award in the 2023 and 2024 Scottish Borders Council Greener Gateway Community Awards for supporting and enhancing community food growing.
In 2024 we entered It’s Your Neighbourhood’, a non-competitive community gardening initiative from the RHS, delivered in Scotland by Keep Scotland Beautiful. We were delighted to achieve level 4 ‘Thriving’.
In 2023 we were honoured to receive ‘Best Group’ in the Volunteer Centre Borders’ ‘Loving Our Volunteers’ Awards. We were also very fortunate to take part in a Connecting Threads project called ‘Film Our Gardens’, a series of sessions in the Greener Peebles community garden and four other community gardens situated along the River Tweed, and culminating in the production of a film celebrating the sights and sounds of the gardens.
