About Greener Peebles

Greener Peebles is a Scottish Charitable Registered Organisation (SCIO): No. SC049387

We provide volunteering opportunities for all ages and abilities, including pre-school, primary, high school, youth groups, adults with additional needs, those with health conditions and retired people. Our garden team deliver inclusive educational activities all year round, and everyone is welcome to take part.

We work with 300 volunteers each year and provide over 2500 hours of volunteering opportunities annually.

Our projects are community-led which means our volunteers meet monthly to give feedback and share ideas with the staff team to progress. Volunteers have a direct say in our project designs to help ensure the work we do meets the needs of our community.

Promoting physical healthy lifestyles – outdoor activity, connecting with nature, growing and access to fresh produce
Opportunities for activities which are known to be good for mental health and wellbeing
Intergenerational volunteering, opportunities to meet new people and make friends, increasing peer support in the community
Promoting low carbon food choices, community growing, upcycling skill shares, reducing waste behaviours
Improving food security, providing free food to all volunteers, teaching how to grow food at home and Pick Your Own harvest days for the community
Developing skills and building confidence, not only in gardening and food growing, but also upcycling, arts and crafts, mindfulness, health tips, practical tasks and digital skills

Greener Peebles is committed to building a sustainable future for our planet. The community garden is our flagship for our ongoing commitment to make the change to low carbon behaviours a reality. We have many years’ experience in successfully engaging our community in relation to low carbon food choices, and also in other areas such as active travel, eco-driving, upcycling and waste reduction.

To promote involvement of the local community, especially young people and those who are isolated or vulnerable, in experiential learning activities which safeguard the health of the planet, and enhance the sustainability of the local environment of Peeblesshire.
